The Guild of Architectural Ironmongers
(GAI)
gives global access to 1000s of learners
with the GAI Education Hub

Delivering a diploma programme accredited around the world

Working as a not-for-profit professional association, the GAI supports, assures, and represents architectural ironmongers, wholesalers, and manufacturers around the world.

THE CHALLENGE

Making eLearning accessible anywhere for everyone

The GAI were introduced to Cortexa via an existing Cortexa customer, the British Woodworking Federation and were looking for a partner to re-develop their global Diploma programme. The Diploma programme is a highly regarded construction industry qualification and is recognised and delivered to countries as afar as Belize to Hong Kong and China.
Historically the Diploma was a print-based distance learning programme that was costly both to run and update.  The requirement was to update the content and move it to a globally accessible eLearning Portal. The site also needed to be capable of running and tracking CPD for alumni.

THE SOLUTION

An innovative learning portal with detailed reporting and payment system

We spent time immersing ourselves in the current programme, assessing the material and collating new content. Following that period of consultation, a solution was presented to the Executive Committee, which was approved, and work started.

Using the original workbook content as source we re-developed the material and flow in online form and in doing that increased the core content. We also re-organised the content to create blocks of learning that made the work more accessible and easier to understand. A total of 24 eLearning modules were produced in Phase One, with 8 block assessments. Each module was developed from a detailed and technical storyboard with additional video content being produced by the team. Modules were then created using Articulate Storyline and published for beta review to a sandbox site before signing off.

The GAI Education Hub was developed with enrolment, online payment, and detailed reporting reflecting membership and non-membership and variable tax regimes around the world.

Finally, an online end of year exam assessment was developed to confirm understanding. The end solution then was a compact, easy to navigate Learning Portal that was powerful enough to run, track and assess learning for hundreds of learners across the world.

THE RESULT

1000s of learners around the world gain qualifications with The GAI Education Hub

Finally, an online end of year exam assessment was developed to confirm understanding. The end solution then was a compact, easy to navigate Learning Portal that was powerful enough to run, track and assess learning for hundreds of learners across the world.

Since the Education Hub was launched there have been 1221 Diploma enrolments and a total of 55,000 hours of learning completed. All these enrolments have been for the online programme and the distance learning programmes have now been discontinued, saving tens of thousands of pounds in printing and distribution, and marking costs.

Cortexa provide a highly responsive learning management system and we also receive the same support from their team, the continuity of services provided in the 9 years have been good.”
