Designing a bespoke and impactful learning platform

Swedish Wood represents the Swedish sawmill industry and is part of the Swedish Forest Industries Federation. In addition, Swedish Wood represents the Swedish glulam and packaging industries, and collaborates closely with Swedish builders’ merchants and wholesalers of wood products. Swedish Wood’s aim is to increase the size and value of the market for Swedish wood and wood products in construction, interior design, and packaging.

THE CHALLENGE

Delivering diverse learning journeys to develop leaders with the wood industry

Swedish Wood’s aim is to promote the use of timber throughout the UK with particular emphasis on inspiring and educating key populations within core sectors which included Architects, Designers, Builders, Merchants, and DIY enthusiasts.

THE SOLUTION

Multi-agency eLearning campaign with online training initiative

With this in mind, Wood Campus was established as a multi-agency campaign, involving the Swedish Timber and a number of UK industry bodies and this initiative has been ongoing since 2009. A major part of this has been the Wood Campus eLearning project: Cortexa were tasked with producing a branded website with a range of online training and promotional assets.

A key success outcome was engaging with a number of audiences, and this was achieved by:

1. A website to promote the use wood across commercial construction, merchants, architects, and DIY. The content includes:

  • Architect Continuing Professional Development
  • A Product Knowledge Centre
  • Demonstration Videos
  • DIY Project Guide & Informative New Articles

2. An eLearning Academy LMS site hosting a Level 3 Award in Timber Merchanting course to train Timber Merchanting staff. The content includes:

  • Four comprehensive sections with 19 individual eLearning modules
  • 39 hours of training and associated course material
  • A final one-hour assessment

3. Supporting promotional activity to advertise the highly professional and comprehensive assets available. This includes:

  • A YouTube channel – content creation and management
  • A full Social Media campaign

THE RESULT

A 17% performance improvement and a significant social media and organic growth

Cortexa has provided an end-to-end solution which has seen website traffic and course uptake grow steadily throughout the project term.


Over the last 12 months:

  • Organic traffic has grown by 309%
  • Users have increased by further 17%
  • Social Media traffic referrals have grown by 130%
