Helping local trades people achieve their potential
Trusted by trades and loved by locals since 1770. At Bradfords, they’ve been proudly serving our communities across the Southwest for 250 years. Since day one, Bradfords have always been family owned and today, with over 40 branches across the West Country and a team of 800, they’re just as committed to helping customers find the right product for the job as they were back then.
THE CHALLENGE
Cultivating a learning culture to accommodate a growing business
As a previous BMF Campus customer Bradfords were familiar with the way we work. They approached us in 2016 to upgrade their Campus experience to a custom branded “Bespoke” site. They wanted a quick transition from their old Campus site to their new bespoke academy and in addition to speed, their main requirements were:
They wanted a quick transition from their old Campus site to their new bespoke academy and in addition to speed, their main requirements were
- Strong branding
- Easy flow navigation and course launching
- Quick, easy to build reports
- Intuitive hierarchy navigation
THE SOLUTION
Creating a thriving and fully branded learning ecosystem
We ran two design workshops in Yeovil with the Learning and Development team to fine tune the requirement and establish processes for communicating with the Bradfords HR system (further complicated by the fact that they told us early on that the HR system was being upgraded too, but we shouldn’t wait for that project to finish!).
Bradfords Group comprises several brands, so they were keen to have distinctive user journeys and different course availability for each. They wanted to gain access to an industry accreditation in the form of the Wood Campus Award in Timber Merchanting.
Finally, they wanted a set of ‘own brand’ courses covering Compliance and Commercial skills available for the re-launch.
The main issue for us then was designing a project timeline that a very busy L&D team could work with, especially when the team were geographically so far from the Cortexa office. Much of the handover and training would have to be done using Skype and GoToMeeting.
THE RESULT
Bradfords now have a fully custom. Own brand LMS with a host of own brand Cortexa developed e-learning content and a good chunk of their own learning material too, including existing video and pdf assets. Being an approved centre for the delivery of NVQs we were able to deliver the Award in Timber Merchanting through their academy and to date some 22 learners have been enrolled on it. Since the launch more 70% of colleagues have logged in to the site and between them, they have completed over 8,000 courses.
“We’ve been a Cortexa customer for over 10 years but when in 2020 they helped us to upgrade our LMS to Totara we’ve been able to take our online training experience to a whole new level.”
